"Our Vision"

CSD — a nationally renowned private nonprofit deaf and hard of hearing service organization — has entered into a partnership with BarZ Adventures to further CSD's mission of creating access, independence and awareness for their deaf and hard of hearing constituents. Now, as BarZ Adventures continues to create tours at other public venues around the nation, CSD will assist those venues in meeting the guidelines set forth by the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA). The ADA is a landmark civil rights law passed with strong bi-partisan support that creates accessibility requirements and standards for public and private businesses. The act prohibits discrimination on the basis of disability in employment, programs and services which has come to be interpreted to include tours, educational and interpretive content available at venues such as theme parks, zoos, and museums.

Because the script is originally developed in English, the act of translating the tour into ASL is a simple, efficient and cost-effective means of meeting ADA guidelines, since the interpreter only needs to be recorded signing the available script/tour. The GPS Ranger also includes a captioning option, for those deaf and hard of hearing individuals who do not use ASL as their primary mode of communication.

BarZ Adventures Inc, founded in 2005, is an Austin, TX based company combining experts in the fields of computer delivery systems and content development. BarZ Adventures has designed the patent-pending GPS Ranger™ and Zoo Ranger™ systems with large venues and their visitors in mind – its sole mission is to enhance the visitor experience at high visitation locations using modern technology. BarZ Adventures is proud to offer Accessible Tours. The Ranger Series can deliver tours in ASL or captioning for the deaf or hard of hearing, Audio Description for the blind or visually impaired, and mapping and display of accessibility information and features for the physically disabled. GPS Ranger tours in ASL are currently available for rent at the Independence National Historical Park in Philadelphia, PA and a historic walking tour in downtown Austin, TX. Captioned tours are available for rent at the Independence National Historical Park in Philadelphia, PA (in English, Spanish, German, French and Italian), a historic walking tour in downtown Austin, TX (in English), Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historic Site in Atlanta, GA (in English), and from the Dallas Zoo in Dallas, TX (only in Spanish).
